The school is a wonderful place to gain and education with bully-free hallways and the most caring staff.

Teachers treat the students like their own kids
Overall Experience 2014-01-01
I would definitely choose this school again if I could do it all over. I have had many positive experiences here and have nothing but respect for the staff, including the Principal, teachers, and my guidance counselor. They have been helpful and supportive throughout my high school years.
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-03-01
We have many different diverse groups in my school. We have groups representing beliefs such as the green movement and conservation, and we also have groups representing religion and culture. Everyone in my school is envolved in at least one type of club in which they can get their voice heard and socialize with with peers. In addition, my school has an ESL program, which is an, Enlish Second Language program for kids who have immigrated to the U.S. and have to learn the enlish language in addition to keeping up with their academic curriculum. It's kind of cool to be walking down the halls and hear about 3 different languages spoken by students.
If someone asked me to tell them the best feature of H. Frank Carey, it would definitely be the teachers. They're all so passionate about their job. I can't say I've ever had a "mean" or "bad" teacher at this school. All of the teachers care about their students and the school itself. They actually make an effort to make a difference in their students lives. They are also all very good teachers. They make learning an easy and more interesting task. An excellent mix of care and passion, teachers at H. Frank Carey thoroughly prepare children for college and life after high school.
My experience has been mostly good with all teachers. My Italian teacher encouraged me to stary with Italian Honors even though I struggled a little. In the end, I was able to take two college language courses. I have always been encouraged by the staff and counselors since I have a decoding issue that sometimes causes me to seek extra help/time. The teachers have always made themselves available.
There are always exceptions, but the majority of teachers are excellent. They won't hesitate to help a struggling student and encourage students to better themselves. There is a variety of teaching styles practiced by different teachers, but they are mostly succesful. If anything, the teachers are too helpful.
The teachers are really professional and knowleadgeable.
Most teachers are very knowledgable as well as approachable
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-05-01
Sports are a big factor of school spirit
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-04-01
While the school has it's cliques, the student body is very diverse and accepting. We have a many clubs and groups that support the diverseity of the studentsl including a Bible club and a gay-straight alliance. The school generally has a liberal and progressive mentality.
Student Culture & Diversity 2014-01-01
Any ethnic/racial diversity and or sexual orientation differences are treated as they should be. They are not. It is a non issue in the school. There are no barriers and no issues. All students are treated exactly the same and are offered all the same opportunities.
Most of the teachers are very intelligent and help students when needed
Overall the teachers are good but better communication when students are ill needs improvement.
Overall the teachers are helpful and caring and approachable if you need extra help or are unsure of a lesson.
Depending on the class, teachers range from being excellent to woefully incompetent. In the AP and advanced classes, the teachers are excellent. They are readily available for extra help and actually care if you pass or not. They are very knowledgeable in their areas and are known to have very good statistics on AP and regents tests. The AP teachers tend to be the most open to ideas offered to the students, though this makes sense in a college level class. Teachers in regular classes aren't as competent as they either fight with the students, don't know enough about their subjects or are the kinds of teachers that play movies rather than teach. Truthfully, this also stems from the poor behavior of students in class.
Most of the teachers I have throughout the years have been excellent.
Overalls the quality of teaching is great! They have an organized game plan that helps lead students towards succes if they follow it. Teachers here are very knowledgable and challenging. They will push their students above and beyond to reach goals and accomplish things us students never thought we could accomplish. They stay on top of communicating with students and parents to ensure their help and provide many resources in order to be the best that we can be.
At H. Frank Carey there will only be one or two teachers that you will be faced with that may not be as great as the others, and that is throughout your 7th-12th grade years. You will leave the school with a handful of friends and amazing teachers that have helped encourage you to strive and push you to do better. These teachers will stay with you for years to come.
Depends on the teacher, but mine have been great, with a few exceptions. All my good teachers have good teaching styles, are pretty knowledged (or are willing to find out, which in my book is the same thing), are helpful, and are generally just very good. There are some bad teachers with bad teaching styles, some bad teachers who have no idea what they're doing. Generally all of the teachers are wonderful though. Not counting the small few who are bad.
Teachers always try to make themselves available, working around the student's schedule.

The guidance department helped my apply to colleges based on my individual assets.
Overall Experience 2013-07-01
The school is really diverse and I meet people from different backgrounds in life. It was a culture shock but an unforgettable experience.
Overall Experience 2015-12-01
Overall, this school has been pretty good to me. The teachers are great for the most part and really care about the students. There are countless extracurricular activities here, with new clubs being created each year. The sports teams are great as well, but there is a huge emphasis on the football program, which has influenced the way money is spent. The technology needs improvement. We bought new televisions for the classrooms, but they don't work all of the time. If I could do it all over, I would definitely go here again. I wouldn't have the experiences or friends I do now without this school.
Overall Experience 2015-06-01
Had a great high school experience but carey can use improvements.
Overall Experience 2014-07-01
Overall, I had a great experience at this school!
Overall Experience 2014-05-01
It really hasn't been a bad experience at all. I had a lot of opportunities presented to me.
Overall Experience 2014-04-01
It's great if you know to get involved. In the earlier semesters, I didn't get involved as much as I should have and that really affected how I viewed going to school each day.
The workload of classes is manageable. There are homework assignments, projects, and papers due for most classes. Teachers are always available for extra help, if needed.
Large Variety, Benefits the student, Some unnecessary courses needed.
There are a wide variety of topics taught for all majors! From a liberal arts major to a premedical student, many classes are provided to explore their options and also get a head start in advancing with their career. I personally want to become a doctor and having classes like AP Chemistry and AP Biology will really help in giving me a college basis! Teachers push you to be the best that you can be and provide more than enough help and teaching for us to be prepared. The workload gets fairly big and teachers have high expectations with the work we give. Scheduling is done by consumers based on the classes we choose and can be changed if any problems arise. Teachers will go out of their way to advise clubs and provide extra help sessions every day! They are here during all times and also free periods to provide their time and knowledge to help you. Academics here are great!
There are plenty of opportunities. It what the student put into it.
Lots of AP classes offered
There are many advanced and AP classes to choose from.
I spoke about the teachers already. The curriculum can be good since there's room for electives if you choose to have them. I always chose to fill mine up and though the work is difficult I wouldn't change what/how many classes I took. Scheduling is very easy. Workload depends on the individual class and schedule. Those with lots of AP's will be much harder than those with half a day of breaks. I'm not sure about special study options or popular classes.
Choosing electives is very easy. Making schedules and the process is very simple-each teacher signs a sheet with their recommendation for your following year's courses. For example, a student taking geometry currently could be signed into trigonometry or algebra 2/trigonometry. The teacher makes the choice.
The teachers at my school are very involved and want every student to succeed. If extra help is needed, there are a variety of options and teachers are also available. Learning is easy and enjoyable at my school.
The school offers many AP classes. Although the AP classes have a heavy workload, if you pass the AP test you earn college credits.
Again, I have found the teachers and academics available to be satisfactory
Overall Experience 2016-09-01
This school has helped me take my baby steps into adulthood. It has made me realize how intense competition between colleges has gotten and how I have to push myself to show colleges and society that I am a smart and intelligent women. This school has provided me with many clubs and educational oppurtunities that had broaden my mindset and has made me want to help more. If I'm on this website right now filling in scholarship applications it's because the school and teachers have guided me to spend my time thinking about college!
Overall Experience 2016-04-01
The school cancelled Senior Day for The Varsity Basketball team and never rescheduled it. Emailed Principal on four separate occasions regarding this and I never received a response. It appears that only certain teams and certain parents get attention.
Overall Experience 2016-03-01
I liked how friendly everyone was. The teachers were very nice. But there should be more fun events. Needs to be more diverse, culturally
Overall Experience 2016-01-01
It would be better if more teachers would interact with students online by placing assignments and anything else necessary especially if students are absent.
H. Frank Carey offers basic classes as well as advanced and AP classes. AP classes can be difficult but, with the right mindset, are very manageable. Other classes include art, music, computer skills, and foreign languages. Many of the teachers are very helpful and encourage their students to attend review classes or extra help.
The teachers aren't the best, but they are very willing to help students out. It is not hard to get one on one attention from teachers after school or during your/the teachers' free periods. The workload isn't bad at all.
Overall Experience 2015-10-01
There is way too much emphasis on certain sports while others go unrecognized.
Overall Experience 2015-08-01
For me, high school was bearable. I wasn't super popular but i had friends. I never really had a clique. I was the type of person who could comfortably hangout with almost any group. While at Carey, i made two new best friends and drifted away from a childhood best friend. For the most part I enjoyed my time. I was an athlete from 7-12th grade and enjoyed my time on teams from jr. high all the way up to captain of varsity. I enjoyed parts of high school but I certainly didn't peak during it; or cry when it was time to leave. Im very excited to leave franklin square and go to college. Enjoy yourself but remember to do all of your work. If I had to do it again, i would make sure all of my home work was always done; and to take advantage of extra help. Do that while you can. Have fun and good luck!
Educational Outcomes 2013-11-01
I feel that what I learned in high school did not prepare me for the expansive world outside of that circle. I did make lasting friendships however, and have upheld communication with some of my favorite teachers.
Overall Experience 2013-11-01
The people I've met and the teachers that I have bonded with make this school worth it. The facilities aren't anything special, and the diversity amongst the student body is lacking.
Overall Experience 2013-07-01
Personally, my experience at Carey has seemed fairly average. I can't really say if I'd do it again given i've never attended another public high school. It went well given I've never had a conflict with the less reasonable school policies, only got sick once or twice from the food, and I joined in a modest number of clubs to keep me occupied. The highlights of my experience at Carey would be the marching band gigs where I bonded with my fellow band nerds in all sorts of weather. My advanced and AP classes were challenging enough to keep me on my toes and my friends varied from the smart ones, the sporty ones, the down to earth ones, and the ones in between.
I fortunately had some very nice teachers (in English and the Arts), but there are still a few instructors who are apathetic about their jobs.
Some are better than others
Some of the teachers aren't very good at teaching, however they are very willing to help out their students.
Overall Experience 2013-04-01
It's generally a great school. Both the administration and student body are friendly. There are exceptions of course, but the school is safe, spirited, and has a focus on education.
Student Culture & Diversity 2014-05-01
Most people are white. Ethnic minorities aren't discriminated against at all.
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-03-01
At H. Frank Carey, people seem to be more accepting of ethnic and racial diversity and different sexual orientations than other schools that I am aware of. Although it may not have extensive racial diversity, the students and faculty seem to be accepting of everyone and anyone. Bullying is not a prevalent issue here; I've only heard of a hand full of bullying issues over the past 6 years and all have been properly taken care of by the faculty. Overall, the student body is very involved in both clubs and athletics. The student government does a good job of making sure there are activities available for everyone.
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-09-01
Acceptance of more unique students in this school is absurdly low. The majority of the students have that "Jersey Shore" style and attitude, and if you don't follow this fad, H. Frank Carey is not the place to be.
Overall Experience 2013-05-01
I have a love-hate- or more like a like-hate- relationship with H. Frank Carey. I'm not sure if I'd go there and do it all again if given the choice. I received a wonderful education from excellent and caring teachers in this school. However, most my peers made this school a terrible and uncomfortable place to be. From day one, my shy and quiet personality had me labeled as a freak and someone who had "mental problems". When I eventually grew out of my shyness, no one wanted to talk to me anyway after thinking I was abnormal and I plummeted into a depression thinking that no one wanted me. Despite the social and mental pain I experienced here, I did manage to make a few wonderful, close friends. We all became close and stuck together because we all had the same or similar experiences while at H. Frank Carey. If I didn't go to this school, I would have never met some of the people I hold closest to my heart.
Overall Experience 2015-07-01
If you are not a part of a certain clique or sports you will have an extremely difficult time fitting in.
Pretty much everyone here is stupid. The work is too easy and they still don't get it.
