The academics are great! It is a lot of work, and can be overwhelming at times, but it's worth it. I've learned so much and the teachers and other students really push you to be your best!
I absolutely loved my time at Mercy. As an all-girls school, it was the best experience for me at that time that I possibly could have had. I learned so much from that place, and the campus is on 90 acres of woods which is beautiful.
The workload is pretty high. Classes are not that easy, but students usually do very well in public exams.
Overall Experience 2016-07-01
I would not change my decision to come to this school if I was given the opportunity to. It has prepared me so well for what to expect in college and it has helped me to value education. Though it can be challenging most of the time, it is all for that one outcome we all aim for- success. This school is different from all of the others because of it's amazing ability to breed strong-willed and dedicated women and prepare them for a bright future.
Overall Experience 2015-09-01
I love this school so incredibly much. During the process, I said I hated it. I think it was mainly because of the overwhelming amount of work involved and the very little free time I had, but the friends I met have become sisters- the no boys thing never bothered me. Being in a small, all-girls school really forces you to become a family. It really was a community and I made memories I would trade for anything. Although sometimes the going gets tough, it is 100% worth it, and I would no doubt go back if given the opportunity.
Overall Experience 2015-07-01
This all girls school empowers young ladies to tackle leadership roles. The academics are amazing, the girls are nice, it is on acres of beautiful land. They have socials with boys in all boys schools, but only in freshman and sophomore years. If you don't know boys by junior year, it's difficult to meet them because there are no socials to meet new boys after that. Otherwise, the staff and administration are great and my daughter has learned a lot and grown in confidence since she first started at this school.
Overall Experience 2014-01-01
I would not have chosen anywhere else to attend high school.
Overall Experience 2013-11-01
Being an all girls school, it takes away one distraction - boys, from the girls minds. The school teach the girls to be assertive, but not aggressive. The mission is to provide the girls to grow in faith, have passion and courage to achieve their goals.
Overall Experience 2013-09-01
Going to an all girls Catholic high school has definitely made for a unique high school experience. All though I may have missed football games and other aspects of a "traditional" high school experience, I would do it all over in a heartbeat. Despite the challenging course work, the friends I have made have been a true blessing as well as the memories and experiences that I will always have with me. I would most definitely choose to go here again as it is the best decision I have ever made.

This school turns girls into responsible young woman
Overall Experience 2013-08-01
A lot of the girls say they would never go back to Mercy, but I really liked going there. It was like a second home. The teachers are nice and caring, and they do more than just help you with homework. I think the students here are very close. Going to Mercy is like gaining a second family.
Overall Experience 2013-08-01
My school helps mold strong, independent, young women ready to face the world. Even though I go to a small "all girls" school, I love my school because it is a tight knit family. The friends I made at this school I will have for a lifetime. The faculty and staff is truly dedicated and passionate about their jobs and helping us all reach our potential. I am a proud student of Our Lady of Mercy Academy. The events, fundraisers, and people in the school make me proud to be part of the Mercy community.
Overall Experience 2015-02-01
I absolutely love Mercy! It really makes a positive impact on the girls. I has made me a more confident, well-rounded individual and I feel it has prepared me for college.
Overall Experience 2015-02-01
The though of graduating brings tears to my eyes. I've shared so many incredible moments with so many incredible people. You will never go a day without smiling at Mercy. You will see yourself grow into a poised, eloquent, and well educated young woman ready to take on the world. I love Mercy so,so much and honestly if you have the opportunity to come here, do it! It's a an experience I wouldn't trade for the world and I'd do it all over again if I could :)
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-09-01
The social scene is really great. I have friends from all different groups. I have never encountered any bullying, peer pressure, or acceptance issues.
All of the teachers at Mercy want to see their students thrive and succeed. They work just as hard as the students, if not more, so that we may receive the best education possible. They are very understanding, however, they do not tolerate slackers or quitters. They are almost always available for extra help, whether it be before or after school; sometimes even during their lunch or free periods. All of the teachers are experienced and knowledgeable about their subjects. Their enthusiasm makes coming to class each day a special treat.
The teachers at Mercy are probably one of the things I'm going to miss the most as a senior going off to college. You become to close to your teachers, which makes you work harder because you don't want to ever disappoint them. They care so much, they're all so fun and engaging too. I personally can say I could go to ANY of my teachers for anything and know that they'd always be there.
The teachers at this school are always available for extra help and have it whenever it is necessary or on a scheduled basis. The teachers are very knowledgeable and interested in helping and teaching.
all of the teachers are available for extra help.
The teachers here are excellent. They are always there when you need them.
Most of the teachers are great and always willing to help a student who is struggling.
Teachers at OLMA are very knowledgable, and care about their students. To put it frankly, they will not let you fail without trying to get you to go to them for extra help, and ask for extra credit. Every class, no matter how simple it may be, is very challenging in many aspects. Teachers try to attend to all ways students can learn, with varying activities and homework. Some are consist with grading, and some are approachable. Overall, the teachers care about their students and try to make us work as hard as we can to succeed.
The majority of the teachers at Mercy genuinely care about their students and are great at what they do. However, there are a few that really have no idea what they're doing, and the math department really needs help. I was lucky enough to get great math teachers for three out of the four years I was there, which really helped when I went to college.
The teachers are available for extra help if needed. The teachers are all very knowledgeable.
I loved the teachers at Mercy, although it kind of depended on the class as to how much I enjoyed their actual teaching.
Most teachers do genuinely have the students' best interest in their minds.
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-08-01
It's an all girls Catholic school, so the majority are Catholic, Lutheran, or whatnot. There is a large range in economic status, though. Everyone is accepting and friendly, regardless of status
Teachers at Our Lady of Mercy Academy are all very hardworking and intelligent. Although the the work is challenging, all of the teachers make sure to prepare you for not only tests and regents, but for college as well. All teachers hold extra help before and after school, teachers use technologies and interesting styles and techniques to teach lessons, and overall love what they do. Teachers are all well educated and are genuinely interested in helping all students to be their best. All teachers make sure to offer all options of learning of you don't understand a topic and always grade fairly and consistently.
Students are not tracked. The students are able to take advanced placement courses, honors courses and courses for college credit. The students are allowed to choose courses of interest after freshman year and the choices increase with each successive year.

The Work load is very heavy ,but I have made some truly great friends. I love my english teacher and my photography teacher.

the sophomore trip to epcot is great.
Student Culture & Diversity 2015-02-01
We truly are a family and treat each other as such. I would give a 5/5, but as accepting as we are, there isn't really much diversity. We are becoming more diverse, however.
Overall Experience 2015-04-01
Mercy's overall a great school. The community and sisterhood that surrounds it is amazing, and you will make lifelong friendships here. The fact that it's an all girls school really makes it unique, and it really helps you connect to other people in college who attended single sex high schools. I would generally say that I'd attend Mercy if I could do it all over, although part of me does miss going to high school with boys.
They are trying harder to make the work load less intense, but it is like another school in terms of amount of homework. There are AP and honors and also remedial math classes.
Educational Outcomes 2015-04-01
Mercy really prepared me for college, especially in English. I was shocked upon arriving at college and seeing that many students were extremely poor writers and didn't know how to properly format or write a paper. Mercy definitely prepared me for my university level English and Writing courses.
Educational Outcomes 2014-04-01
It prepares me well for college.
Educational Outcomes 2014-01-01
I was really prepared academically, as in my freshman year of college was actually easier than my senior year of high school. However, it was a small all-girls school which was a bit of a culture shock to me when I got to a large, coed college.
there is an opportunity to take AP and college level courses.
We are offered many tutoring opportunities by our peers and teachers. Sometimes the work is too and it keeps coming. This year 27 girls failed the Trig regents and the teachers aren't doing much to change that
They do not let you pick your classes, which is appalling.
Educational Outcomes 2013-08-01
some students say the guidance counselors don't help much, but I don't agree. the alumni seem to be successful
Overall Experience 2015-08-01
The all girls environment can be tricky, but if you make good friends who realize that drama is something that should not exist you should be fine.
Overall Experience 2016-05-01
Mercy is what you make of it. The school was not for me. The education was what made me stay. Use it to your advantage, you will not find it in any other Catholic High Schools on Long Island. However, if your looking for a social atmosphere, pay attention to the type of friends you hang out with.
Overall Experience 2016-03-01
It was great the first couple of years then started to change.
Overall Experience 2016-02-01
OLMA is very challenging in every aspect. Besides a lot of work and challenging classes, student engage in a multitude in after school activities. Everyone is involved, and then can sometimes be straining on the balance between academics and after school activities. Due to the challenging environment, I've found life long friends who support me. Everyone cares about everyone, and all the students help each other out. Everyone is driven, and motivated. It was a hard experience to go through, but I don't regret my chaise of going there. It has prepared me not only for college, but for life and general and has shaped me into the person I am today.
Student Culture & Diversity 2014-05-01
The word minority really held it's weight at this school. There weren't many people of different races, or backgrounds, but a lot of ignorant affluent people who had strong opinions about others. OLMA is an all girls Catholic school. My friends who had different sexual orientations were bullied, and oppressed.
Overall Experience 2014-07-01
I like the fact that this is an all girls school because you don't have to look good for anyone. If youre late you just roll out of bed and put on your uniform. The school offers many clubs for everyone to be involved in and a lot of sports. They are building a greenhouse to help student learn more from a hands on experience.
Overall Experience 2014-05-01
Overall, I can't say that I didn't enjoy some aspect of this high school. I enjoyed it in the best way I could while dealing with the corrupt and biased parts that came along. I met great people, and delved into my passions (music and writing). However this school treats diversity like a disease. Instead of embracing each student for her differences, they immensely encouraged you to conform to their ideal "Mercy girl".
Overall Experience 2014-04-01
It has been very stressful.
I've had terrible teachers, and I've had a handful of amazing teachers. My two favorite teachers have been English teachers. They really fostered my passion for writing and encouraged me.
